PSL provided systems assurance services to BAA plc during the development of the Heathrow Terminal 5 Baggage Control System. The role given to PSL was to oversee the software development and testing stages, and to ensure the systems engineering processes and products conformed with system requirements definition on functionality, reliability, maintainability and standards.

Also, PSL were responsible for ensuring that:

• Software developed met its specified requirements
• Products were consistent and complete
• Adequate testing and validation methods were applied
• Any inadequate processes and/or methods that would impact successful implementation were identified.
